The creeping complexity of successful products
Almost every piece of software starts with a crisp, simple purpose. But as teams expand and quarterly metrics demand higher retention, apps begin adding streaks, popups, banner ads, and loyalty points.
Eventually, the core task that brought the user to the app in the first place becomes hidden beneath three levels of navigation.
At Adyve, we treat subtraction as a primary design tool. Every screen must defend each pixel and each interaction against the question: "Does this truly serve the person using it?"
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”
— Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Four principles for calm software
To keep our products aligned with this ethos, we adhere to four straightforward design guidelines:
- No dark patterns: Never hide unsubscribe links or trick users into accidental clicks.
- Hierarchy through typography: Use clean scale and generous whitespace instead of heavy borders and flashy badges.
- Sensible defaults: Reduce decision fatigue by pre-configuring the most common and privacy-respecting options.
- Zero notification anxiety: Never send an alert unless it requires immediate physical or safety attention.
